“HISTORY OF EIFFEL TOWER
The structure was built between 1887 and 1889 as the entrance arch for the Exposition Universelle, a World’s Fair marking the centennial celebration of the French Revolution. Eiffel originally planned to build the tower in Barcelona, for the Universal Exposition of 1888, but those responsible at the Barcelona city hall thought it was a strange and expensive construction, which did not fit into the design of the city. After the refusal of the Consistory of Barcelona, Eiffel submitted his draft to those responsible for the Universal Exhibition in Paris, where he would build his tower a year later, in 1889. The tower was inaugurated on 31 March 1889, and opened on 6 May. Three hundred workers joined together 18,038 pieces of puddled iron (a very pure form of structural iron), using two and a half million rivets, in a structural design by Maurice Koechlin. The risk of accident was great, for unlike modern skyscrapers the tower is an open frame without any intermediate floors except the two platforms. However, because Eiffel took safety precautions, including the use of movable stagings, guard-rails and screens, only one man died. read more here

This is how Universal Studio looks. It is really a very huge area. We were in a hilly place somewhere as I took this picture during our visit last year..As you can see, you find the picture a bit dark because I read before in the internet that this is due to the smog that surrounds the area. if I am not mistaken that is how polluted this place now. just sharing this photo for you to have an idea about the place.

Universal Studio in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, the dream of many to visit this place can be very memorable and awesome experience. We had a tour as we visited Universal Studio. We witnessed a lot of places there where they filmed movies like Jurassic, Desperate Housewives, Fast and Furious and a lot more.
if I am not mistaken, these are the houses where the Desperate Housewives scene takes place..That pink house with a security guard is the house of a famous film producer….

HISTORY OF UNIVERSAL STUDIO
The founder of Universal was Carl Laemmle, a German Jewish immigrant from Laupheim who settled in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where he managed a clothing store. On a 1905 buying trip to Chicago, Illinois, he was struck by the popularity of nickelodeons. One story has Laemmle watching a box office for hours, counting patrons and calculating the take for the day. Within weeks of his Chicago trip, he gave up dry goods to buy the first of several nickelodeons. For Laemmle and other such entrepreneurs, the creation in 1908 of the Edison-backed Motion Picture Trust meant that exhibitors were expected to pay fees for any Trust-produced film they showed. On the basis of Edison’s patent on the electric motor used in cameras and projectors, along with other patents, the Trust collected fees on all aspects of movie production and exhibition, and attempted to enforce a monopoly on distribution. It was believed that the productions were meant to be used for another company but they turned it down.

I have been dreaming to visit this place and I was finally there. Buckingham Palace is a must to see especially when you visit London. I witnessed here the changing of the Royal Guards and it was a nice experience! Sad to say, I was not able to meet Queen Elizabeth II..wink! more about Buckingham Palace below.

Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of the British monarch. Located in the City of Westminster, the palace is a setting for state occasions and royal hospitality, and a major tourist attraction. It has been a rallying point for the British people at times of national rejoicing and crisis.
Originally known as Buckingham House, the building which forms the core of today’s palace was a large townhouse built for the Duke of Buckingham in 1703 and acquired by George III in 1761 as a private residence, known as “The Queen’s House”. It was enlarged over the next 75 years, principally by architects John Nash and Edward Blore, forming three wings around a central courtyard. Buckingham Palace finally became the official royal palace of the British monarch on the accession of Queen Victoria in 1837. The last major structural additions were made in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including the present-day public face of Buckingham Palace. However, the palace chapel was destroyed by a German bomb in World War II; the Queen’s Gallery was built on the site and opened to the public in 1962 to exhibit works of art from the Royal Collection.

The original early 19th-century interior designs, many of which still survive, included widespread use of brightly coloured scagliola and blue and pink lapis, on the advice of Sir Charles Long. King Edward VII oversaw a partial redecoration in a Belle epoque cream and gold colour scheme. Many smaller reception rooms are furnished in the Chinese regency style with furniture and fittings brought from the Royal Pavilion at Brighton and from Carlton House. The Buckingham Palace Garden is the largest private garden in London, originally landscaped by Capability Brown, but redesigned by William Townsend Aiton of Kew Gardens and John Nash. The artificial lake was completed in 1828 and is supplied with water from the Serpentine, a river which runs through Hyde Park.
The state rooms form the nucleus of the working Palace and are used regularly by Queen Elizabeth II and members of the royal family for official and state entertaining. Buckingham Palace is one of the world’s most familiar buildings and more than 50,000 people visit the palace each year as guests to banquets, lunches, dinners, receptions and the royal garden parties. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckingham_Palace

Would you like to go to one of the biggest shopping mall in England? If you can’t go and travel for now, I just want to share how Bullring Shopping Centre looks outside. This mall is truly an amazing work of architecture. See how it is built with all those metal materials that are used in its construction! Of course, we went shopping here in Bullring last year during our vacation! what an awesome experience!

The Bull Ring is a major commercial area of Birmingham, England. It has been an important feature of Birmingham since the Middle Ages, when its market was first held. It has been developed into a shopping centre twice; first in the 1960s, and then in the 2000s.
The site is located on the edge of the sandstone city ridge which results in the steep gradient towards Digbeth. The slope drops approximately 15 metres (49.2 ft) from New Street to St Martin’s Church.
The current shopping centre is the busiest in the United Kingdom with 36.5 million visitors in 2004,[3] and is also the eleventh largest. It houses one of only four Selfridges department stores and the largest Debenhams outside of London. Consequently, the centre has been a huge success, attracting custom from all over the world, including New York.

If you probably heard or seen the famous Parthenon in Greece, Germany is also proud of its one of a kind Parthenon replica called the Walhalla Temple. It is visible from afar and wide because the temple like building of Walhalla was built on the wooded slopes of the hundred meter high brewery hills in Donaustauf, a town near Regensburg in the state of Bavaria, Germany. When you take a look at it on the side, the building seems to lean against the long ridge of the hill and looks down over the Danube Plain.
According to the small book I read about Walhalla, the history of the building or rather its coming into being, dates back to the time of deep humiliation in Germany. Here is the photo of the building where we usually enter after walking some hundred meters from the car park place. I will be sharing more photos of the building in a few days.

Paris Las Vegas is a hotel located on the famed Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, USA, that is owned and operated by Harrah’s Entertainment. As its name suggests, its theme is the city of Paris in France; it includes a 5/8ths scale, 540-foot-tall (164.6 m) replica of the Eiffel Tower, a neon sign in the shape of the Montgolfier balloon, a two-thirds size Arc de Triomphe and a replica of La Fontaine des Mers. The front facade of the building suggests the Paris Opera House and the Louvre.
The Paris is linked via a promenade to its sister property, Bally’s Las Vegas. It also is linked to the Las Vegas Monorail.
